In August 2019, one of the most exciting chapters in the recent history of Van der Valk Hotel Venlo began: the start of a major new construction project with the ambition to make the hotel completely suitable for the future.
From the very first moment, it was clear: this would not be an ordinary renovation, but a large-scale and sustainable new construction project that needed to be modern, welcoming, and future-oriented at the same time. The demolition of the old hotel work began with a lot of energy and vision; while the existing 60-room tower remained open to guests, the work on the new part continued as usual.
Step by step towards a new hotel
In the months that followed, the construction project developed step by step:
Of demolition in October 2019 of old buildings created space for renewal.
After that followed important phases such as the pouring concrete and the laying of the foundation. We shared this important milestone with over 60 family members and business associates. Our guests could also come and visit on Saturday, March 7, 2020, while enjoying a delicious breakfast.
During construction, a series of vlogs and atmospheric images that showed the progress and emotion of the project, from the work in April and August 2020 to reaching the highest point in October 2020 - an important moment when the silhouette of the new hotel became visible in the skyline of Venlo.

Sustainability as the heart of the project
The new hotel is designed with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. Inspired by the Cradle-to-Cradle-in principle, the building is constructed with materials and techniques that fit a circular economy and promote reuse. Exactly in line with the ambitions of the municipality of Venlo and the Van der Valk family.
Opening and modern facilities
On 31 mei 2021 officially opened its doors for hotel guests. From that moment on, visitors could enjoy:
168 modern and luxurious hotel rooms,
12 multifunctional meeting rooms, including an auditorium,
A à la carte restaurant and a live cooking restaurant,
A trendy hotel bar and a rooftop bar on the 12th floor,
A complete fitness and wellness floor for relaxation and exertion.
The official opening ceremony was a festive moment: on June 9, 2021, the mayor of Venlo, together with the management Han and Ine van der Eijk, symbolically cut a sustainable floral ribbon. The new hotel could now receive 600 guests at the same time, ready to welcome both vacationers and business visitors.

The new Van der Valk Hotel Venlo combines comfort, durability, and multifunctionality. It is a place that invites meeting, work, relaxation, and gastronomy, while at the same time serving as an icon in the region. The emphasis on natural materials, stylish design, and a warm atmosphere highlights that this hotel is unique in its kind in North Limburg.
