Sustainability
Our materials passport
Even at an early stage and long before the first stone of the new hotel is laid, a lot of time has been spent on the choice of "building materials."
The City Office Venlo has been an important source of inspiration for us. The city office is built Cradle to Cradle and is a leading example of Dutch Cradle to Cradle architecture.
Our new hotel consists of a wide range of sustainable materials and techniques. Throughout the entire development and construction process, we also realized that it is a utopia to be able to build a 100% Cradle to Cradle hotel. Hopefully, that will change in the future.
Below the tiles, we will take you to our "building blocks" or suppliers. Do you have a question, would you like a tour, or would you like to share your personal experience with us or do you know of other, better, or smarter sustainable solutions? We would love to hear from you. Send an email to venlo@valk.com.
The building

Below is a selection of our suppliers. They didn't become our supplier just like that. At an early stage, we called on suppliers to think along with us about fulfilling our sustainable objectives. We are proud of these companies and the collaboration.
Knauf: plasterboard and finishes.
Rockwool: insulation throughout the entire building.
Scheuten Glass: the entire hotel is equipped with heat-resistant and sound-insulating glass.
Rockfon: sustainable ceiling systems for perfect acoustics.
Herman Vaessen: All gardens and ponds are landscaped by the most sustainable gardener in the Netherlands. And this one also comes from the immediate vicinity of Venlo.
The interior
Materials passport
In our hotel, you will encounter various sustainable solutions. Some are very obvious, but some are not. For example, our wooden floors are not made of wood but from recycled car windows. And our carpeting is made from carpet waste and residues from the water catchment areas in Brabant. But the building also consists of sustainable solutions. We are proud to be able to achieve our sustainability goals with the companies listed below.
Rosval: handmade large kitchen stoves and a 100% Van der Valk family business from Best (Brabant).
Mosa: Cradle to Cradle ™ -certification at GOLD level, certified tiles throughout the hotel.
Tarkett: the most sustainable flooring in the Netherlands.
Ami: aluminium and door hardware: Cradle to Cradle™ certification at SILVER level.
Ecolab: cleaning products: environmentally friendly and safe cleaning products.
Elti curtains: purely Dutch, made in one of their own studios.
PERSU: sustainable, functional, and stylish workwear.
Brabantia: Cradle to Cradle ™ certification at BRONZE level, the certified Bo Touch Bin is in the hotel.
Parthos: the walls of our meeting rooms are made of Parthos (EDp (DIN and ISO1402500))

Enjoy delicious food and drinks with local products and a focus on waste processing and sustainable production. At the breakfast buffet, we use Dry Misting technology, which ensures that products remain cooled and prevents them from having to be thrown away after the event. In addition to the Dry Misting technology, we have recently placed the Orbisk in the scullery, which helps us reduce food waste. The Orbisk is currently in the startup phase, but the outlook is positive.
The suppliers below help us to achieve this objective. Each and every one of them are great companies with which we want to continue working for a long time.
